R L Capital, LLC Investment Philosophy:
a two-pronged approach
STOCKS
I like to invest in “value” stocks. I buy stocks of companies when their stock price is low in relation to my determination of the intrinsic value of the company - in other words, I look for stocks that are undervalued. Investing with a so-called “margin of safety” is central to my philosophy. This margin of safety serves as a cushion between the market price of a stock and my determination of its intrinsic value. I purchase a stock with the belief that the market will eventually recognize the company’s true value, and then the price of the stock will rise accordingly.
EXCHANGE-TRADED FUNDS
I like to invest in exchange-traded funds, or ETFs. ETFs represent shares of ownership in a fund that holds a portfolio of investments in stocks, fixed-income instruments, or other securities. ETFs are composed of a basket of securities that track a particular index. The main advantages of ETFs include diversification, low costs, income tax efficiencies, and trading flexibility.
SUMMARY
By setting up a portfolio with the right combination of individual stocks and ETFs, I can create a diversified approach that is suitable for a wide variety of investors. Investors who may find my strategy appropriate for their goals include:
- Investors with a long-term horizon seeking capital preservation coupled with relatively high levels of current income
- Investors saving for education for their children or themselves
- Investors saving for retirement
- Investors who believe portfolio diversification is a key component to growth over the long term
